Deichtorhallen are centrally located in Hamburg between the main train station and HafenCity, and are among the most important exhibition venues for contemporary art and photography in Europe. The two historic halls – the Hall for Contemporary Art and the House of Photography – impress with their spacious, light-filled architecture in the style of early industrial buildings. With their expansive exhibition areas, the Deichtorhallen offer a unique setting for art experiences, events, and cultural projects. The premises can be rented for external events such as receptions, dinners, or presentations, and offer excellent accessibility due to their central location.
As one of eleven museums, exhibition venues, and memorial sites in Hamburg, we are dedicated to one of the most important tasks of our time: the global transformation towards sustainability. The new Hamburg climate protection targets aim to reduce the city’s emissions by 70% compared to 1990 levels by 2030. By 2045, net carbon neutrality is to be achieved. The cultural sector wants and must contribute to this goal, without limiting people’s access to art and culture. In the project “Eleven to Zero,” eleven institutions have joined forces to create a pioneering initiative on a national scale, taking collective responsibility to consistently and sustainably advance the ecological transformation of their venues. The focus is always on concrete action! With our efforts, we aim not only to contribute to Hamburg’s climate targets but also to ensure the long-term viability of museums, exhibition venues, and memorial sites on society’s overall path to climate neutrality.
